WHO WE ARE

Dennis V. Thompson
(214) 762-2842

Mr. Thompson has been a litigation consultant for the last eighteen years, during which time he has helped a diverse array of corporate clients and trial teams "put their best case forward" at trial. His work has taken him into corporate boardrooms throughout the United States and abroad, as well as courtrooms, large and small, in a variety of venues. His skills and experience have been brought to bear on dozens of complex cases, involving some of the largest corporations in the United States, Europe, and Japan. His client list includes a number of Fortune 100 and 500 companies. Five of the top 25 and ten of the top 100 privately held corporations in the U.S. have turned to Denny for help with their litigation needs. In 1998, a client of Denny's secured a victory that the National Law Journal identified as the "number-two defense verdict in the nation" for that year; that same year, he helped another corporate client win one of the top plaintiff verdicts, as reported in the Journal. Other highlights of his career include preparing witnesses from all kinds of occupations, backgrounds, and nationalities—including numerous European, Japanese, and Middle-Eastern witnesses—to testify effectively, both in deposition and at trial.

Mr. Thompson provided extensive assistance to the trial team that secured a precedent-setting verdict for their clients in the aftermath of the largest corporate fraud in U.S. history at that time. Edward J. DeBartolo Corp. v. Coopers & Lybrand, 928 F. Supp. 557, 556 (W.D. Pa. 1996)

Mr. Thompson earned a B.A. in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. As a Certified Public Accountant, he spent the first twenty years of his career engaged in public accounting, both for a former Big Eight accounting firm, and as the owner/partner of a Texas firm specializing in the oil and gas industry. This experience equipped Mr. Thompson with an in-depth understanding of business operations in a variety of different industries, and the ability to translate complex business transactions into jury-friendly terms.

From 1993-2004, Mr. Thompson worked as a Senior Litigation Consultant at Courtroom Sciences, Inc. (CSI). He then established an independent consulting firm. In 2006, Mr. Thompson and his partner, Jonathan Leach, formed Trial Lab LLC.

Mr. Thompson is also Credentialed by the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association. He received his basic mediation and negotiation training from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law. He also received a Certificate of Mediation and Dispute Resolution from the University of Texas at Arlington. He has more than two hundred hours of mediation and negotiation training.

Mr. Thompson is a member of the ADR section of the Dallas County and Texas State Bar Associations, the Texas Association of Mediators, and the Tarrant County Association of Mediators. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, Tarrant and Parker County Bar Associations, Tarrant County Family Bar Association, and the American Society of Trial Consultants

Mr. Thompson is a frequent guest lecturer and a volunteer coach at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law. He has assisted in coaching mock trial, negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and client counseling teams to regional, national and international championships. He was awarded the 2011 Steve Chaney Friend of The Law School Award. The award honors non-alumni for service to the law school.

Mr. Thompson is a Vietnam Veteran who served in the United States Army where he was awarded two bronze stars.

Jonathan Leach
(214) 459-8323

Mr. Leach has been a litigation consultant for thirteen years, first as a Senior Litigation Consultant for Courtroom Sciences, Inc. (CSI), and now as a founding member of Trial Lab, LLC. Mr. Leach has consulted on a variety of matters in both state and federal courts throughout the United States, in venues from San Diego to Boston and Minneapolis to Miami. He has conducted focus groups and mock trials; developed case themes; assisted with jury selection; and conceived hundreds of trial exhibits. Notable projects include a full menu of consulting services in a patent-infringement matter, in which the plaintiff secured a verdict of over $3.6 million, including treble damages. Auto Wax Co. v. Mark V Prods., Inc., No. CIV.A.3:99-CV-0982-M, 2002 WL265091 (N.D. Tex. Feb. 22, 2002).

Mr. Leach has developed a particular expertise in working with witnesses. Most recently, after the deposition of a key witness, he heard this from a Washington, D.C., litigator: “I have to say, this is one of the most improved witnesses I have ever seen. [The witness] stayed on message. There were even a couple of moments where he scored some really good offensive points. Ultimately, they scored no points at all on him.”

Theme development is another passion. For a full-day mock trial in Maryland, involving allegations of a fraudulent conveyance, Mr. Leach drafted both sides’ presentations, as well as conceiving graphic exhibits explaining each side’s position. He and his Trial Lab partner, Dennis Thompson, then presented the entire mock trial as role-play attorneys. Their client, a veteran Chicago trial lawyer, had this to say: “I’ve got to tell you: I’ve done projects with other jury consultants. This is the best jury-consulting experience I have ever had.”

Jonathan holds a B.A. from Yale, an M.A. from the University of Chicago, and a J.D. from the University of Texas. His work experience includes a number of years in the corporate law department of a major food company. Since earning his law degree, he has done additional graduate work, in communications and theater, at both Harvard and Yale.

Mr. Leach is a member of the Dallas Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and the American Society of Trial Consultants.
